MTP's new traveling display, funded by a grant from the
Sesquicentennical Commission, was on display, as were a number of
special Sesquicentennial keepsakes available for purchase from MTP.
The business meeting was animated and productive. Pioneer
of the Year Leona S. Benson gave a memorable acceptance speech in
which she shared remembrances from her 90 years.
Robert Goodman's presentation offered many stories about
territorial times: how and why the Territory and the state
were born .... land speculators bargained tracts away from
the Indians and were granted railroad lands, long before the
railroads were built. Goodman reported that many of our most famous names tended to be a
bit shady, or at least interested in their own wealth before that of
anyone else. He was easy to listen to and entertaining.
